New Season, New Habits : Makeup Edition

Day Make Up and Night Make Up are two very different things. What many people that I've noticed don't understand is the contrast in color and intensities each look(day vs night) has in its respective light (which can either flatter or make the look duller). Too often I see a night "face" in the middle of the day, or at night but in a supermarket paired with sweatpants and a tee (like this person was at home chillin, and did her face up to make a quick run to the store).

I blame this on the entertainment industry. So much goes into informing us what look is hot and in style, but not enough into when and where the appropriate time is to wear it. Now I'm no expert, but I did some research and came up with a few pointers to end this madness..

There are 3 key factors that will enable you to wear the right make up:

~ the way you apply it

~ the amount you apply

~ the colors you apply

Daytime Make Up: Light & Natural

.:use warm, neutral colors
.:use light colored eyeliner, ie: brown; avoid black unless not using eyeshadow
.:use one coat of mascara
.:use sheer lip gloss if you used eyeshadow (balance)
.:use brighter colored lipstick if you only used eyeliner and mascara for eyes

*enhancing lips and eyes will make you look dull and unpolished

Evening Make Up: Go Strong!
.:use dark or bold colors
.:matte or shimmery eyeshadow
.:use frosts and glitter(optional)to catch muted lighting, ie:moon or candlelight
.:use black eyeliner and two or more coats of mascara
.:tinted or sheer lipstick/gloss...your preference

Another MUST is knowing how to apply make up. The way, the amount, and the colors you use have no relevance if you don't have the technique to back it up! Your technique can be the difference between fabulous and disastrous, and quite frankly, I'm fed up with disastrous.

A good person I think you could look to for help or guidance is a Professional Make Up Artist known as Queen of Blending. Here's one of her latest tutorials.
